'INSIGHT'
Deciphering the language of visuals is like an adventure to the spectator.
While contemplating a work of art, the viewer knowingly or unknowingly stumbles upon the esoteric
mysticism that it entails, and ponders the cryptic message that it embodies. Though he inevitably fails
to come to an appropriate conclusion, he extracts a deep and personal significance based on his
own wealth of experiences. A work of art is like a prism; its meaning changes with the angle with which
we see it.
Looking at Omprakash Jadhav's work from an objective angle, I can affirm that Mr. Jadhav has
endeavored the most challenging aspect of painting; that is, the depiction of portraits.
This is especially difficult because the average viewer often overlooks portraits as the mere imitation of
life, and therefore find it hard to see meaning and beauty. However, painting portraits is no simple task;
It requires practice, observation, creativity, and perfection and composure of the mind and the body.
My interest in this collection of artworks is to judge what struggles form the work of Mr. Jadhav. I do not want to
write a biographical prelude, but to comprehend the underlying themes by identifying how he
exceptionally integrates art and his personal thoughts and emotions. How is his world shaped? How has
he turned mere conceptions into portraits with such utmost artistic accuracy? And how has he created
poems out of those faces, possessing such pristine silence, yet shouting out with colors and feelings?
My first scrutiny of Mr. Jadhav's work revealed that the portraits encompass the sense and sensitivity of
Expressionism, which can also be characterized by the works of Rabindranath Tagore, and the highly
sensitive colors of Raja Ravi Verma. While Raja Ravi Verma collected his subjects from the rich Indian
mythology, Mr. Jadhav drew his inspiration from his own surroundings.
Omprakash Jadhav has witnessed the result of historical imbalances and times of social turmoil, and
has seen a new culture emerge while old values are forgotten. His subjects belong to his own times;
they are his peers, with whom he shared the same experiences. They are the masses of India, the
common man. They are mere faces in a crowd, each hiding a unique story behind unassuming looks.
Mr. Jadhav has performed a remarkable study of human portraits.
He has poured his own emotions and experiences in the faces of these people,
and it shows. His brushstrokes in all the paintings are distinct and purposeful, and one can appreciate
his control of space and form within the paintings as well as the thought-provoking drama of colors
and shades. Each work is a mental vision that has been actualized by Mr. Jadhav's impeccable use of
the physical medium of acrylic painting.
In these paintings, Mr. Jadhav has bent his previous narrative style and penetrated more into an
abstract form of portrait painting. Rather than a mere depiction of reality, they are a representation of
emotions that delve deep into the human mind, providing insights on the expression of feelings. The
portraits also invite the viewer to find personal insights on themselves through meaningful introspection.
This thought-provoking quality is what makes Mr. Omprakash Jadhav's paintings magical; they possess
a certain intangible beauty along with the obvious physical appeal.
We have named this collection of artworks - ‘INSIGHT’ as a tribute to that intangible beauty, and its glorious expression through the faces of ordinary people. Mr. Jadhav's portraits are windows into his soul, and the souls of
every human being. They are the most beautiful expressions of life.
